Ocean Street, Bondi

Understanding a project’s purpose and place in an environment, before building it, is an intrinsic part of our ethos. Ocean Street South is characterised by single-story, interwar detached cottages. We set out to respect the streetscape, but re-interpret the character in a meaningful and contemporary way.

This 3 bedroom pair of semis feature high ceilings, open-plan living, exposed timber joists, and polished concrete floors, taking quintessential beachside living to another level. While a single-storey façade, in keeping with adjoining properties sits at the front, a second-story, not visible from the street, was cleverly integrated at the back, allowing for a private top-floor parents retreat. An internal light well acts as a separating element between the front and rear forms.
